Summary: On Saturday April 30, 2011 and Saturday October 22, 2011 youth volunteers from the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, once again, participated in the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care’s (3rd) Annual Intergenerational Spring and Fall Clean-Ups. The youth volunteers performed general yard clean-up duties; raking and bagging leaves, sweeping driveways, porches and sidewalks and brought light refuse to the curb for pickup. They also socialize with the senior citizens whose yards they clean.

Throughout the year, youth volunteers from the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley’s Teen Leaders Program volunteered their time teaching young children the basic fundamentals associated with the games of basketball and soccer in their Learn To Play Basketball and Learn To Play Soccer Clinics. The Teen Leader’s youth volunteers also played important roles performing game operation duties; setting up, keeping score and running the clock for their Teen Basketball League. Having the youth volunteers actively involved not only teaches them the value of volunteerism, but allows the YMCA to offer the clinics and basketball league at a lower cost to the participants.
